Ashwagandha is also know as Withania somnifera,or Indian ginseng. In Sanskrit Ashwagandha means “the smell of a horse,” suggesting that the herb imparts the vigor and strength of a stallion. It is widely used in Ayurveda. It belongs to the same family as the tomato,and is a shrub with oval leaves and yellow flowers. It has red fruit about the size of a chick pea.
